Gals Rooms

It is with great anticipation that a girl looks forward to re-decorating her room.  The parents guide the decisions for organization, and the daughter contributes  colors, patterns or ‘themes’ that she likes.  These are exciting times!  Below are several examples of rooms that are re-done.  Scroll through the photos and have a look for yourself.

JULIA’S ROOM MATCHES HER FAVORITE DRESS

BEFORE we started on Julia’s Room, we needed  some inspiration.  Color seemed like a perfect solution, and Julia came up with the only thing she could find to help us understand what she wanted….. ‘her favorite dress’.  Logical for a 5 year old!

So there we began.  She needed a dresser and some storage, and she was passionate about butterflies, a tree and loved owls.  The rest of the practical stuff was left to the adults to decide.

Pink was the wall color of choice, and so two walls were painted light and two walls a medium tone.  A valance to dress the window, pillows to dress the bed, a book case painted to match and a brand new 9 drawer dresser.  Of course a bean bag to curl up in a must!!  Looks like Julia won’t be hard to find from now on…. just check her room.

Ella’s Room

While Ella was away this last week, her room was completed.  It will be such a grand surprise!

She has a large new desk with storage underneath, and she can write on the chalk board doors.  Under her tree is a nice quiet spot for her to read, and I’m pretty sure her little brother will fit on that bean bag as well.  Books are handy to the bed as well for night time reading.  Her name with detail is above her soft lavender bed, and a flower growth chart at the entrance to the room to remind her what a big girl she is becoming.  Lucky Ella!!

Lauren’s Room

Lauren room is only  9 feet by 10 feet.  She has so many inspirations and ideas that her room was spilling over with imagination.  Time for a re-do!!

Check out the ‘before’ pictures and you will see how space was so limiting, that it was time to decide what could stay and what has to go into the ‘memory chest’ in the basement.

You will also see ‘disaster averted’ with the photo of the new feet we had to add to the bunk bed when it was cut too short!! Fortunately, not only did the new post feet fit perfectly, but they helped to secure the bed so that no additional supports into the wall were needed.

Lauren’s original room had a bunk bed in it, but it was a single with no storage options.  What you are seeing is a basic Ikea Stora Double Loft bed,  black high gloss wood, simple design, $299.  Good place to start!! It was too tall so we shortened it, and we added the storage beneath (the white storage unit was in Laurens room previously).

The ‘desk’ top was built, painted to match in high gloss black, and secured on top of an Ikea  Expedit series shelving unit with a added door and drawer options.  Behind the desk is a ribbon board/pin board custom made to fit the space and match the bean bag fabric.  Ikea lights were fastened to the under side of the bunk so that the cords are all hidden behind the bed.

Lauren is super happy with her new space.  She will have to choose carefully when she adds all of her stuffies and treasures back into her room, but we have enough storage for most things now.  To the left of the door there is an upright Expedit storage unit that isn’t visible in the photos.  There will  be more pictures taken once her closet drape is finished, and you will see a beautiful valance of gathered hot pink sheer, and a new light.  This time lapse will also allow me to come back to install in a few weeks time and check on whether everything is working well.  Very important in a room well organized!

Sadie’s Room

Sadie room is a perfect example of possibilities.  This room had a bed, bedding  and walls of a neutral soft yellow.  It was a blank slate.

There was a budget in place, and so we incorporated ideas such as Vintage repainted furniture to cut down on cost.  We also created ‘something from nothing’ -like the canopy, which gives you that ‘thrifty’ edge as well.

The parents asked that we go step by step so the plan I created was one that could be done in Two Stages and would definitely grow with her for a long time.

Our Stage One began with the canopy, closet drape, desk (also used for some small clothing), nightstand.  It was barely installed when Stage Two was requested because it was just too cute to resist!  From there we added the carpet, peg board above the desk, book rack and the bean bag chair creating a complete and totally organized room for Sadie.  She was super excited and spent a long while moving all of her things into just the right places.  Such a lucky girl Sadie is!!

Emma’s Room

BEFORE  Emma was old enough to decide what her new room would look like, she packed it full of all of her favorites from her youth and loved every inch of it.  But when she grew older, the little things needed to move over for a more sophisticated space.  One the would grow with her through her teen years.  This is what she chose -although the installations proved a huge surprise!!
