Ethan’s Playroom
This room is downstairs. A good sized window graces this room, but nevertheless it needed to be inviting for this 5 year old to initiate play on his own.
Keeping totally modern to match the home, colors chosen were tones of grey for the wall, and a retro yellow, brilliant orange and graphite for accessories.
Budget was considered important in a change of this size, and so we shopped for ideas that would work for now but could also be incorporated within the home at a later date. For example the bean bag chairs, small table and ottoman stools. There is also the coolest ‘fort’ under the stairs with a painted chalk board door to personalize this exceptional space!
Kitchen Playroom
Kitchens are a gathering place for friends and guests, and certainly no different for kids when they are small. They just want to be close by.
Plenty of storage was built into the wall and under the bench. Activities then surround the area, custom made to blend in
Main Floor Playroom
Here is an example of a playroom that needed to look as though it belonged. It is situated beside the family room, on the main floor of the house, and the clutter of all of the toys had to be contained (and organized) So here is what we did:
(Click on the pictures to see the slide show. Scroll through the photos and when you put your mouse on the picture a bar will appear at the bottom of the picture detailing the photos.) For further details, read below.
1. Table with 2 cubbies and 4 stools were put in place for table top play
2. ‘Built in’ storage for the televisions to sit on, and drawer storage below looks neat and clean.
3. The large wall needed to contain most of the toys so we went as tall as possible to store even the things we only needed once in a while.
4. Child-sized sofa was custom made to blend fabric colors with the family room and also be just the right size for Konner and Beckett. Construction allowed a firm base beneath the seat cushions so that when you tossed all the cushions on the floor you have a running board to jump off of. (I can hear parental gasps) …..It’s all good kid-fun!
Little Friends
A couple of moms with loads of ambition set out to make their kids Pre School fit for royalty. The castle mural was the start of this big adventure and from there grew the Princely Guard and the Fairy Princess. Among the loads of paint, new flooring and play center tools, painting detail was used to enhance this new Cheerful Theme that now makes everyone smile as they enter.
Glenora Club Playroom
Glenora Club Playroom was updated with new play equipment and furniture, so when I came in to add some finishing touches -it was looking pretty fresh. My suggestions were to tie in the ideas for the front entrance with the back and side walls so that your eye flows freely throughout the space and presents some interesting things for the kids to look at -things that are more their size.
The back wall was already painted in an eggplant chalk-paint color. To this I added a painted canopy to bring down the visual height of the wall and to achieve a more ‘kid friendly’ level of play. Beside the back wall is the ‘When I Grow Up’ mural of some fun dress up ideas for kids, and around the corner from that is a scalloped design painted around the window in purple to include the back chalk-wall color and also frame in the window.
The front entrance speaks for itself. It’s fun, playful, and the kids know just what to do with the growth chart on the tree. Kids are very receptive to the idea of the new mural and have found all of the painted surprises left for them night after night while the work was being done.
